Both the 2022 Ford Bronco Sport and Ford Explorer Earned a Top Safety Pick+ Rating

Congratulations are in order for the 2022 Ford Explorer and Ford Bronco Sport as both models earned a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). Both models earned the highest possible rating from the independent, non-profit group. It goes without saying that both vehicles scored a rating of good throughout six crashworthiness tests, the top rating available in each category. IIHS crashworthiness tests include: driver- and passenger side- small overlap front tests, as well as moderate testing of roof strength, front and side, and finally head restraint tests. Additionally, in order to earn Top Safety Pick+ status, vehicles must also feature a front crash prevention system that earns either an advanced or superior rating in vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-pedestrian tests. Regardless of trim level, vehicles must also earn either good or acceptable ratings for their respective headlights.
2022 Ford Explorer
Best suited for family duty, the 2022 Ford Explorer comes standard with three rows of seats and plenty of cargo space, making it a very versatile vehicle that’s great as a peoplemover. A turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine that generates 300 horsepower is the standard that lies beneath the hood, but buyers can also opt for a hybrid powertrain that’s powered by a 400 horsepower twin-turbo V6 engine. Advanced tech features and other driver assist commodities offer a future-facing vehicle with an overall polished package.
Some changes to the 2022 Ford Explorer include the addition of a new ST-Line trim, tasked with combining the high-performance design of the ST trim with a more efficient turbocharged four-cylinder powertrain. Buyers can enjoy 20-inch wheels, as well as black exterior accents and badging on the Explorer’s ST-Line trim. On the inside, the cabin is performance-oriented as well and includes faux-suede upholstery with red stitching, door-jamb protection plates that bear the ST-Line logo, and a sport steering wheel. Ford also added rear-wheel drive on its Explorer ST trim as well, while the top-tier King Rand and Platinum trims were bumped to 400 horsepower and can now be equipped with either a pair of captain’s chairs or a second-row bench seat for no extra charge. The Timberline trim, added in 2021, now offers an available second-row bench as well.
2022 Ford Bronco Sport
Considered one of the best compact crossovers that perfectly mix urban living and the great outdoors, the 2022 Ford Bronco Sport is a downsized version of the full-size Ford Bronco. Its truck-like dimensions help the Bronco Sport, giving it ample headroom and spacious cargo room. Buyers can expect hidden storage compartments, as well as other unique touches – including a slide-out workbench. All-wheel drive is standard on the Bronco Sport, although Ford does offer a top-tier Badlands trim that’s a bonafide competitor for the Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk and is powered by a potent turbo-four engine.
Considering the Ford Bronco Sport debuted in 2021, the automaker didn’t make any significant changes to the model for the following model year. The Badlands trim remains the shining star of the lineup thanks to its off-road capabilities, including a 245 horsepower turbo-four engine, an enhanced all-wheel drive system, a lifted suspension and even features upgraded dampers for the Bronco Sport to tackle the most defiant terrain with ease.
