Ford Joins Forces With Uber, Introduces Rideshare Leasing Options

Ford Next and Uber joined forces to introduce a new exciting lease option catered specifically to rideshare drivers looking to make the transition to electric vehicles. The program, referred to as Ford Drive, presents a convenient and flexible solution for interested buyers by providing them access to acclaimed nameplates such as the innovative Mustang Mach-E. Initially launched for the California market as a pilot program, Ford Drive began its vehicle deliveries in Los Angeles as of June (2023). This collaboration between the two business giants aims to facilitate the adoption of electric vehicles within the rideshare industry and further contribute to a sustainable future.
Rideshare drivers now have the freedom to choose a Mustang Mach-E that best suits their needs, all with the flexibility of a lease ranging from one to four months, depending on the location. Within a two week timeframe, the vehicle of choice is directly delivered to the driver, and the Ford Drive app subsequently becomes their go-to tool for managing payments and scheduling service. In collaboration with local dealers, every Ford Drive team designated to a particular city acquires a fleet of Mustang Mach-E vehicles, ensuring convenient service and maintenance via the same dealerships customers know and trust. This streamlined process guarantees a hassle-free experience for rideshare drivers, so they can quickly enjoy the benefits of being behind the wheel of a Mustang Mach-E.
Ford Next and Uber initially launched the groundbreaking flexible lease pilot program back in 2022 exclusively for San Diego drivers already on the Uber platform. With over 150 Mustang Mach-E units available for lease, the program eventually expanded to include three cities in California, allowing rideshare drivers to experience this new and refreshed approach to leasing. California, Uber’s leading North American market for EV adoption, has seen nearly 10 percent of all on-trip miles complete in fully electric vehicles (2022), thus making it the perfect market for this forward-thinking leasing solution.
“We understand uptime and ease of use are critical to every rideshare driver. As more of them make the switch to electric vehicles, we’re building the Ford Drive program around their unique needs. We’re glad that the initial feedback on this venture has been so strong, and it’s exciting to learn from these driver experiences to explore solutions supporting Uber and Ford’s shared electrification goals,” said Bill Knapp, leader of Ford Drive.
The Mustang Mach-E provides drivers currently on the Uber platform with plenty of trunk space and comfortable riding room for up to five passengers, making it an ideal choice for city trips or airport hauls. Additionally, drivers can take advantage of the extensive BlueOval Charge Network, offering them access to over 85,000 charging stations and counting. This network is currently recognized as America’s largest public charging network, ensuring convenient and reliable charging options for Mustang Mach-E drivers.
