Ford Kicks Off 2024 Ford Edge Production
In June of 2020, reports indicated that the next-generation Ford Edge had been unexpectedly discontinued. This decision appeared to be influenced by labor discussions revolving around the future of the Oakville Assembly plant, which is also responsible for producing the Lincoln Nautilus. Later on, this report gained further credibility when Ford and the Canadian union Unifor reached an agreement to reconfigure the Oakville facility for manufacturing electric vehicles, starting in 2025. Despite initial expectations that Ford Edge production would cease after the 2023 model year, recent information from Ford sources, reported in late December (2022), revealed that the manufacturing of the crossover will continue until early 2024. Now, sources familiar with the situation claim production of the 2024 Ford Edge has already commenced.
Starting from July 17th, 2023, the Oakville Assembly plant officially initiated the production of the 2024 Ford Edge, marking the commencement of the final phase for this particular model. Order banks for the 2024 Ford Edge had initially opened on May 15th (2023), although the model’s future remains somewhat uncertain.
According to the previously mentioned report from the past year, production of the Edge at the Oakville facility will continue until January 31st, 2024. Following that, the plant will undergo retooling to accommodate the manufacturing of the upcoming Ford Explorer EV and Lincoln Aviator EV. These two electric models are anticipated to be the sole offerings produced at the Oakville facility in the foreseeable future. In the meantime, a completely new iteration of the Edge made its debut in China a few months ago. Additionally, the recently unveiled 2024 Lincoln Nautilus is expected to be assembled at the Changan Ford Hangzhou Assembly plant in the same country.
As anticipated for a vehicle entering its apparent final model year of production, the 2024 Ford Edge retains its design without any alterations from the 2023 version, as rumored in May (2023).
