Ford Mustang: The World’s Best-Selling Sports Car Over the Last Decade Combined

The Ford Mustang–currently celebrating its 59th birthday– is the world’s best-selling sports car over the last 10 years combined. This statistic is courtesy of Ford’s analysis of registration data directly from S&P Global Mobility. According to a trove of Ford’s internal data, the U.S. market remains the Mustang’s stronghold, representing over 78 percent of the model’s total global sales. However, the model did see some growth in Germany (up 17 percent), Britain (up 14.4 percent), Switzerland (up 14.9 percent), and throughout the Middle East (up 7.4 percent).
“We’re proud of the entire Mustang family, what it represents to Ford and especially our passionate Mustang owners and fans. It’s our commitment to serving Mustang’s global community, from Atlanta to Adelaide and beyond, that has earned Mustang the honor of world’s best-selling sports car for 10 years combined,” said Dave Bozeman, Vice President of Enthusiast Vehicles for Ford Blue and Ford Customer Service Division.
All-new, Seventh-Generation 2024 Ford Mustang
The all-new, seventh-generation 2024 Ford Mustang adds yet another chapter to the model’s storied history. Enthusiasts of the iconic pony car can count on the 2024 Mustang to deliver in looks, design, sound, and appeal that they’ve come to expect from the world’s best-selling sports car. Available in either convertible or coupe configuration, the 2024 Mustang continues to offer buyers plenty of options thanks to its available V8 or turbocharged four-cylinder engine, manual or automatic transmission, multiple price points, and numerous performance levels.
The 2024 Ford Mustang lineup features two new available engines–a 2.3-liter EcoBoost and a 5.0-liter Coyote V8. There’s also a new Remote Rev feature that allows owners to rev the car’s engine remotely all thanks to the key fob, while an available new Electronic Drift Brake can help novices drift like pros. Ford also added the Mustang Dark Horse appearance package, expanding the model’s lineup with a touch of nostalgia in the performance realm. This marks the first time Ford offers a performance package since the introduction of the Mustang Bullitt back in 2001. With sinister looks and a specially modified 5.0-liter V8 engine, the Mustang Dark Horse generates over 500 horsepower and aims to set a new benchmark for street and track performance.
2024 Mustang Mach-E
The 2024 Mustang Mach-E extends its reach, with the latest electric addition to the Mustang family now available in 39 countries. Ford recently celebrated the production of its 150,000th Mustang Mach-E since launching nearly two years ago. The milestone is significant for the automaker because it highlights how quickly Ford scaled up production to a rate of 600,000 annual units due to overwhelming demand–a testament to the Blue Oval’s forward-facing EV choices.
