Ford Rolls Out Over-the-air Updates for the 2023 Mustang Mach-E

Ford recently rolled out its latest over-the-air (OTA) software update for its Mustang Mach-E model. The latest software update really improves Ford’s Sync 4A infotainment system with the addition of an improved user interface, a more full-screen Apple CarPlay compatibility, and several new games. However, while those perks are all great, perhaps Ford’s best OTA update is the addition of new physical controls which help regulate the cabin’s climate and heated seats. Yes, a software update can’t physically add or subtract knobs within a vehicle, but re-configuring the twisty knob that currently controls only the volume was an easy feat for Ford.
Going forward, the volume knob on the Mach-E’s main infotainment system will be in charge of double duty. When a driver taps one of the available icons–be it temperature, fan speed, or even the heated seats–the knob will automatically switch from controlling the volume to controlling whichever feature was selected. Although Ford concedes it is a relatively small update, it’s still a good change because plenty of research supports that touchscreen controls can cause driver distraction. Using the knob as the single point of focus to control cabin temperature, fan speed, and heated seats is a good functional improvement for those behind the wheel of the Mustang Mach-E.
2023 Mustang Mach-E
Like many other electric crossovers on the market, the Mustang Mach-E features an aerodynamic teardrop shape, thus improving the drag coefficient along with overall range. Ford also added an exceptional front grille; borrowed directly from the Mustang, as well as a sloped roof for additional headroom. For 2023, the only major change coming to the Mustang Mach-E lineup is the addition of the Nite Pony Package. The Nite Pony Package is Ford’s standard black exterior package, blacking out wheels, window trims, and other bits on the vehicle. Buyers can choose between four different trims, the Select, the Premium, the high-tier California Route 1, and the performance-oriented GT. Ford offers the 2023 Mustang Mach-E in single motor rear-wheel drive and dual motor all-wheel drive. Additionally, buyers can even choose between two different battery pack sizes for even more range.
When it comes to the Ford Mustang Mach-E’s powertrain, Ford is not greedy with its options. The Select trim is only available with the smaller battery pack and can be paired with either rear- or all-wheel drive. The rear-wheel drive configuration yields 247 miles in range, while the all-wheel drive delivers 224 miles. Both configurations of the Mustang Mach-E make 266 horsepower, the only difference being that the all-wheel drive trades in range for added torque. The extended range battery, available on the Premium trim and above, gives buyers a top range of 306 miles. The all-wheel drive configuration of the Mustang Mach-E Premium and above do sacrifice some range in exchange for torque, rounding out at about 290 miles and 346 horsepower.
At the top of the lineup sits the Mustang Mach-E GT, whose specs deserve a closer look all on their own. The GT is dual-motor and all-wheel drive only, with up to 270 miles of range, 480 horsepower and up to 634 lb-ft of torque. Buyers will be impressed with the Mustang Mach-E GT’s 0-60 time of just 3.5 seconds. The inside of the Mustang Mach-E features a small screen which replaces the instrument cluster in front of the steering wheel, while the middle of the dashboard features an attention-grabbing 15.5-inch central infotainment system. Powered by Ford’s latest SYNC4 infotainment software, the system includes Apple CarPlay and Google Android Capabilities, available navigation, over-the-air software updates, and an optional Bang & Olufsen sound system.
