Hertz Will Now Offer 900-Horsepower Ford Mustang For Rent
Hertz is ready to cater to all the daredevils ready to hit the road– renters can now get behind the wheel of a supercharged 5.2-liter V8-powered Ford Mustang to the tune of 900 horsepower. Just for reference, that’s officially 400 more horsepower than buyers can get in a Chevy Corvette, and double the power that people get in a regular V8 Mustang. The Mustang Shelby GT500-H (and yes, the H is in reference to Hertz) is a special-edition Mustang produced by Shelby American and exclusive to Hertz’s rental fleet.
All this said, the Mustang Shelby GT500-H won’t be easy to find– Shelby American is only making 25, 19 of them in black and six in white. Renters can find them at the following Hertz locations: Fort Myers, Las Vegas, Miami, Orlando, Phoenix, and Tampa. It also won’t be a cheap rental either, as the average daily rate stands at around $399 per day. Hertz gives renters the first 75 miles free of charge, but every mile over the limit costs 75 cents. Renters must be at least 25 years of age. According to Shelby, the model will be available to rent starting this summer (2022).
The Mustang vehicles in question feature gold racing stripes and are based on the Ford Shelby GT-500 model, requiring an additional modification from Shelby American. By the looks of it, some Hertz rental customers deemed the 760 horsepower of these supercharged V8 muscle cars insufficient, thus the Mustang GT-500H was born. One of the biggest changes Shelby American made when it came to Hertz’s supercharged Mustang was the inclusion of a larger supercharger that brings the horsepower up to 900.
Shelby American is also currently producing a lineup of Mustang Shelby GT-H vehicles with 450 horsepower that do not feature a supercharged. These vehicles, based on the Mustang GT trim, come in both hard-top and convertible variants. Paying homage to the original 1966 Shelby GT350-H models that were made specifically for Hertz rental fleets, the ongoing Hertz Shelby program has seen several renewals since the early 2000s with the addition of several gold-striped models. This latest expansion of Hertz’s fleet happened to be the most powerful version yet.
When it came to expanding the Hertz rental program, Shelby American’s President Gary Patterson discussed with Hertz what was available when it came to power and performance. “We said, ‘This is where we can go if you want to go there’,” Patterson said. What followed was a deal for the 900-horsepower Mustang GT500-H.
