Ford is introducing a brand-new driver assistance feature called Exit Warning for the upcoming 2024 Ford Mustang. This feature aims to enhance road safety by assisting drivers in sharing the road responsibly and protecting vulnerable road users such as cyclists, pedestrians, and scooter riders.

The Exit Warning feature operates by alerting the driver if a vulnerable road user is approaching the Mustang before they open the door. Here’s how it functions: When the Mustang is in park, the rear radar system scans for vulnerable road users who are traveling at least 4 miles per hour, which is approximately one-third the speed of an average cyclist. If a vulnerable road user is detected and there is a potential risk of impact when the door is opened, Exit Warning utilizes audio and visual alerts to notify the driver. These alerts are displayed through the Ford SYNC system, the Mustang’s instrument cluster, and the side mirror.

Even after the ignition is turned off, the technology remains active for up to 3 minutes, continuing to provide audio and visual alerts through the instrument cluster and touch screen. Considering that cycling accidents are most prevalent from June to September, particularly during the summer season, it is crucial for drivers to prioritize the safety of those who may be commuting or enjoying the warm weather. The introduction of the Exit Warning feature in the 2024 Mustang is one of the ways Ford is demonstrating their commitment to enhancing the safety of all road users.

The Ford Mustang incorporates various safety features to enhance the protection of its occupants. Here are four notable safety features found in the Ford Mustang:

  • Advanced Airbag System: The Mustang is equipped with a comprehensive airbag system, including front-impact airbags for the driver and passenger, side-impact airbags for the front seats, and side curtain airbags that provide head protection for occupants in both rows in the event of a collision.
  • Stability Control: The Mustang features an electronic stability control system, which helps maintain control of the vehicle during challenging driving conditions or emergency maneuvers. This system actively monitors the car’s stability and can adjust braking and engine power to prevent skidding or loss of control.
  • Adaptive Cruise Control: Available as an optional feature, adaptive cruise control uses radar technology to maintain a set distance from the vehicle ahead. It automatically adjusts the Mustang’s speed to match the flow of traffic, reducing the need for constant manual speed adjustments and enhancing safety during long drives.
  • Blind Spot Information System (BLIS): The BLIS system utilizes sensors to monitor the Mustang’s blind spots and alerts the driver if there is a vehicle detected in those areas. This feature provides visual or audible warnings, increasing awareness and helping drivers make safer lane change decisions.

These are just a few examples of the safety features available on the Ford Mustang, which is designed to provide a secure driving experience for its occupants.
