Shelby’s 760 Horsepower Engine is Now Available as a Crate Motor

The Shelby 5.2 L Supercharged Predator V8 engine is available from Ford Performance Parts. However, it will only be available as a replacement engine (just in case the previous one blew up or sustained damage). The engine is open to anyone who can dish out $25,995 (the cost of the engine) and who has the desire to buy one. Since it’s also a “crate motor,” it will be delivered to the buyer(s) on a crate with protective packaging.
Engine Specifications
The 5.2 L Supercharged Predator V8 is the standard engine on the 2020 Shelby GT500, and it produces 760hp and 625 lb-ft of torque. Ford is now making this engine accessible to consumers who want the power and performance without buying an entirely new vehicle. Ford Performance Parts sells the engine as a “ready-to-install” long block with all the components for a fully functioning engine, such as an alternator, supercharger belt, air conditioning compressor, etc.
Important Criteria to Consider
It’s probably not the right product for a young teenager who just bought a Ford Mustang last week, but rather for experienced mechanics and racing enthusiasts that know how to put an engine together. Best of all, the engine comes with a Ford Performance factory warranty of 2yrs/24,000 miles for extra peace of mind. But considering the price point for that engine, regular-everyday consumers would be better off with a brand new 2021 Ford Mustang EcoBoost that goes for a starting price of $27,205 (plus destination fee). Even though it has half the cylinders of the Shelby GT500, it is still an excellent value for consumers, and it’s significantly more fuel-efficient than its gas-guzzling big brother.
Ford Performance Parts TechLine
For information about installation, specifications, or helpful tips, it’s highly recommended to consult with the Ford Performance Parts TechLine before purchasing. Since it’s a high-performance engine, it will require high-octane gasoline all the time, so be sure there is enough money left over for gas money. The high compression ratio of all eight cylinders means the engine will consistently achieve its peak performance levels, making it a very thirsty engine with just 12mpg in the city and 18mpg on the highway.
